Patch Programs:

COC happily participates in and administers the OUSA Patch Program for recognition of skill development and orienteering community contribution.  Want to learn more about earning your OUSA patches?  Read on.

Issuing OUSA Patches:

Each year during the WIOL Championship award ceremony, OUSA skill patches will be awarded by the COC training Coordinator to eligible participants.  The cost is (currently) nothing.  You just have to meet the criteria set forth below.

How to earn your OUSA Skill patches:

  • Complete the KSM(Knowledge, Skill, Milestone) worksheet for each skill level.
  • KSM Patch Form
  • Turn in the KSA worksheet to the COC Training coordinator.
  • Profit

Level 1 Patch Overview:

  • Download and complete the form.
  • KSM Patch Form
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to your coach or the COC Training Coordinator.
  • Major milestone:  Successfully complete 1 white (elementary) course solo. (No MSP/DNF)

Level 2 Patch:

  • Download and complete the form.
  • KSM Patch Form
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to your coach or the COC Training Coordinator.
  • Major milestone:  With Level 1 complete, successfully complete 4 yellow (middle school) course solo or harder.  (No MSP/DNF)

Level 3 Patch:

  • Download and complete the form.
  • KSM Patch Form
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to your coach or the COC Training Coordinator.
  • Major milestones:  With Level 2 complete,
    • Successfully complete 4 orange (JV) course solo or harder.  (No MSP/DNF), AND
    • Complete 1 Ultimate Orienteering or National Level event at the Orange level OR complete 4 Varsity level courses at WIOL.  AND
    • Volunteer at an orienteering event 3 times or more

Level 4 patch:

  • Download and complete the form.
  • KSM Patch Form
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to your coach or the COC Training Coordinator.
  • Major milestones:  With Level 3 complete,
    • Successfully complete 4 Varsity course solo or harder.  (No MSP/DNF), AND
    • Complete 4 Ultimate Orienteering or National Level event at the Brown (female) or Green (Men) level  AND
    • Perform a critical club function from the list below:
      • Update or create a map.
      • Create an official course for an official event while working with the club course design supervisor.
      • Perform course setting duties 2 times or more.
