Registration closing TONIGHT Thursday for Choose Your Adventure #2 – Corn Maze!

The registration is open here and the event page is posted for the next event in the Choose Your Adventure series – Corn Maze! The Choose Your Adventure series is designed to be extra fun, social, and friendly for beginners, yet interesting for seasoned veterans. At Choose Your Adventure events, everyone gets the same map with checkpoints marked all over it. There will be a mass start and a map exchange. Each map will have 12 controls. You find as many checkpoints as you want, in whichever order you want. Just be sure to mind the time, since there’s also a time limit. Return to the finish on-time, or lose precious points for every minute you’re late. Choose Your Adventure is especially good for beginners, since if you can’t find a checkpoint, you can just skip it and keep going. Veterans are challenged by trying to identify the most efficient route to find all the checkpoints, and the mass start means head-to-head racing for some. Bring a compass, pen, and watch and come join the fun!

COC’s Jessica Colleran Competing at World University Orienteering Championships

2022 FISU World University Championships Orienteering is in full swing in Switzerland this week. COC’s Jessica Colleran is competing for Team USA along with 9 other collegiate male and female athletes from around the USA in this biennial event.  Jessica is one of two female athletes competing in 4 of the 5 events in and around the Biel-Bienne area. She has run the individual sprint and the long already. She finishes up the week with the middle and the women’s relay.  Congratulations Jessica! Way to represent Cascade OC, the University of Washington, and the US National Team on the world stage.

End of 2022 Ultimate Orienteer Series and National Ranking Event, part of PNW Orienteering Festival

Join us at Fishtrap Lake on June 11-12 for the end of the 2022 Ultimate Orienteer Series. Fishtrap Lake has a unique scabland terrain, where the vistas are expansive but details are plentiful. There are few trails in this area, so you’ll appreciate the plethora of contour and rock details as you traverse this beautiful desert area. June is a great time of year for wildflowers here, so you might want to take a moment to enjoy them.

The Saturday event is a Middle distance National Ranking Event with courses in the standard range of White through Blue. The Sunday event is a Goat style event with five courses of different distance and difficulty.

These two events are the culminating events of the Pacific Northwest Orienteering Festival – Nine events over nine days. The PNWOF starts in Missoula on June 4 with an NRE Classic and a sprint organized by Grizzly Orienteering. The mid-week events are organized by Eastern Washington Orienteering Club. See the PNWOF webpage for general information about  the festival and links to the individual events. Register through the PNWOF registration site for the entire festival or select the events you want to attend.

Wednesday Evening Series now open for registration and volunteering!

All events in the 2022 edition of the WES are available for registration and volunteering available. While we don’t quite have the full venue lineup nailed down just yet, we can promise it’ll be another great summer season, so check it out – the first event is this upcoming Wednesday the 15th at UW!
