2008 Race Details
The Courses
We're offering two courses - short and long. Both courses have
river and no-river options and will include an unannounced challenge
somewhere on the course.
The competitions will take place in the Teanaway Valley in
eastern Washington, north of the town of Cle Elum.
Long Course
This course will include approximately 5k of river trekking,
3k of orienteering, 10k of trail running/trekking, and 15k of
mountain biking. The winning team is expected to finish in approximately
6 hours.
Short Course
This course will consist of 2k of river trekking, 2k of orienteering,
5k of trail running/trekking, and 8k of mountain biking. The
winning team in this category should finish in about 4 hours.
July 27 Goat Orienteering
If the adventure race isn't enough for you, stay over for the
Ultimate Orienteer Goat Race on July 27. In keeping with
the fine tradition of goat
events, this approximately 10k race will feature a mass start
and the option of skipping a control of your choosing. We'll
also offer the Kid Race, a shorter alternative. Guaranteed
to be a fun navigational challenge! You can sign up for the Goat
Race when you sign up for Six Degrees or on the day of the event.
Competition Categories
Racers may compete solo or in teams (two, three, or four). Teams
of two or three may be men, women, or coed. Teams of 4 must be
coed (at least one male and one female per team). You must be
18 or older to participate.

Racer Check-in
Although we will have check-in available on Saturday morning,
we encourage you to check in on Friday if possible.
Gear Inspection
We will not have a pre-race gear inspection. We WILL be doing
surprise gear inspections on the race course, and there will
be time penalties if you do not have the required gear.
SPORTident Electronic Timing
We will be using the SPORTident electronic timing system for
the race. This system was developed in Germany for orienteering
events, but is easily adapted to adventure racing. Each team
will be issued a SPORTident card, which is inserted into a SPORTident
station at each checkpoint. The SPORTident station stamps the
card with the time and emits a beep. This process only takes
seconds.
At the finish, the data from the card is downloaded to a computer,
and split and total times are printed.
A demonstration of the electronic timing system will be available
at Friday's racer check-in.
Course Maps
Each team will receive one set of maps for the competition.
Each individual may receive a complimentary set of course maps
(available after the competition) by signing up when you register
for the race.
Food
After-race food will be provided for all race participants (you
may purchase additional tickets for family members and spectators).
Both vegetarian and omnivorous options will be available.
